Who Is This Test For?

The Cambridge English TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) is designed for people who want to teach English as a foreign language.

It is suitable for:

• new teachers who want to build confidence and gain a recognised qualification
• experienced teachers who want to prove or update their teaching knowledge
• teachers of children, teenagers, or adults
• native and non-native English speakers
• people preparing for further teaching qualifications such as CELTA or Delta
• teachers working in primary, secondary, or adult education settings.

About the Test Modules

Module 1

This module tests your knowledge of:

• terms and concepts of English language teaching
• factors underpinning the learning of English
• a range of materials, tasks and activities for English language teaching.

Module 2

This module tests your knowledge of:

• the knowledge and skills you need to plan lessons
• the types of assessment and resources that can guide your lesson planning.

Module 3

This module tests your knowledge of:

• teachers’ and learners’ language
• classroom management.

CLIL Module

This module tests your knowledge of:

• the learning, thinking and language skills that learners acquire in different areas of the curriculum
• lesson planning, the activities and resources needed to support a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach
• lesson delivery and assessment in CLIL contexts.

Young Learners

This module tests your knowledge of:

• learning and development in young learners
• the strategies and skills required to teach young learners aged 6–12 years
• lesson planning, the activities and resources needed to support young learners
• lesson delivery and assessment in young learner contexts.
